On ‘A Black Spring’

A Black Spring (June 26) by Kalaiyarasan A. is brilliant, particularly the manner in which the author has brought in the similarities between caste inequality in India and racial inequality in the US. While we have tonnes of material by legions of overseas scholars who have descended on us and have produced an enormous literature on caste/class/tribe/gender inequality characterising Indian society, the number of Indian scholars engaging in such depth with deep rooted racial inequalities among Western societies is rare.

While commending Kalaiyarasan for this piece, I hope he will follow it up with a sequel that captures the voices of the elite among the Blacks who have 'made it' in the US and their stand on these protests.
